The JV OSAT facility, touted as India’s first on a commercial scale, will start off with a team of 100 professionals. The unit will provide complete turn-key solutions, including package design, bumping, assembly, testing, dropship and will serve India’s growing domestic needs while providing an alternate supply chain to the global ecosystem, ASIP said. The JV has already submitted its application under the India Semiconductor Mission and is awaiting approval, Telangana IT & industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu said after a meeting with the JV leadership team.

Pointing out that the OSAT/ATMP process currently contributes about 30-40% of the value of ICs (integrated circuits) used in mobile devices, automobiles, IoT, AI, and ML, ASIP CEO Venkata Simhadri said the upcoming hi-tech facility in Hyderabad aligns with ASIP’s vision to boost the development of the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) value chain and provide OSAT/ATMP support locally.

“ASIP plays a key role in semiconductor manufacturing by helping in assembling and testing of semiconductor chips that are fabricated at leading foundries around the world,” he added.

Pointing out that APACT is an established OSAT company in South Korea with strong technology and proven track record, APACT CEO Seong-Dong Lee said: “India is an emerging market with a large world-class design talent pool and govt policies to support domestic manufacturing are extremely attractive. We are looking forward to playing a key role in India’s semiconductor manufacturing growth.

” Eminent scientist and NITI Aayog member Dr VK Saraswat said Hyderabad offers a robust global scale ecosystem for IT and hardware manufacturing industry along with industry-friendly policies and this collaboration will be a pathbreaker for India’s semiconductor landscape. The global OSAT market, which was estimated at US$ 51.71 billion in 2023, is growing at a CAGR of 8% and is expected to cross US$ 76 billion by 2028.ASIP, South Korea’s APACT in JV to set up OSAT unit in Hyderabad at  Rs 890 Cr.
